Working in a Global Organization
Working across cultural borders is a common experience these days, but that doesn’t mean it is done effectively. There are still too many cases of managers and employees going blindly into cross-cultural situations and either doing damage to relationships or achieving results well below par. The successful cross-cultural manager is someone who can recognise cultural differences, understand their impact on business activities, create appropriate strategies for managing the differences, and carry out those strategies effectively.
Benefits
- Understand the key trends of globalisation and its impact on your organization and role (even if your role is primarily domestic)
- Examine your own dominant cultural orientations and deepen your sense of self-awareness – an essential attribute which supports global effectiveness
- Recognise the primary behavioural styles and values of other cultures and learn how to adapt your styles to be more effective with individuals from these cultures
- Identify specific best practices that promote effective cross-cultural communication and teamwork
Audience
Middle managers whose responsibilities involve them in interacting with people from different cultures around the world.

Methods
There are two delivery options for this programme:
- Classroom (½, 1 or 2 day): Participants complete the Country Navigator Worldprism Profiler questionnaire as pre-work. This is followed by a classroom session in which participants are taken through the concepts and skills outlined above in order to expand their knowledge of cross-cultural management and virtual teamwork in a global context. The program is high impact, experiential and challenging. All participants have continuing access to the Country Navigator e-learning and country comparison resources following the programme.
- Virtual Classroom (4 hours): Participants complete the same pre-work as for the face-to-face session. This is followed by attending a virtual classroom session in which participants explore the key concepts and skills outlined above, pose questions to the facilitator, complete ‘breakout room’ exercises, and collaborate on the online whiteboard. Due to the length and nature of the virtual classroom format, some of the group activities described above are replaced by ‘virtual’ versions. As above, all participants have continuing access to the Country Navigator following the programme.
