Global Virtual Teams
Increasingly, global virtual teams are being utilized to conduct the operational and strategic work of the business. The reason is not simply cost; global virtual teams enable organizations to leverage expertise and other resources across the worldwide business. The Global Virtual Teams programme is a highly interactive learning solution that ensures team members and intact teams acquire the knowledge and skills needed for maximizing global virtual team performance.
Benefits
- Recognize the critical need for adaptability in today’s challenging global workplace
- Identify the major challenges to effective global virtual teamwork, and how to overcome them
- Define a framework of six competency zones for generating high performance on global virtual teams
- Identify and apply best practices within each performance zone
- Recognize the stages of virtual team development and how to step up to another level
- Create an individual action plan for improving priority development areas for self and real-world team(s)
Audience
Managers and individual team contributors who either participate in or are part of an intact team. When attended as an intact team the team leader and his / her team members will exclusively work on the improvements of their actual team. When attending an open enrolment session delegates will focus on individual virtual teamwork skills.
Some key topics
- Three Major Challenges to Global Virtual Teamwork (Isolation, Fragmentation, Confusion)
- Three Countermeasures (Increasing the levels of Engagement, Cohesion, and Transparency)
- Six Team Performance Zones (Convergence, Cooperation, Coordination, Capability, Communication, Cultural Intelligence)
- Ten Personal Attributes for Global Virtual Teamwork (Technological Competence, Results-Orientation, Accountability, Discipline, Initiative, Time Management, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Openness, Networking, Self Sufficiency)
- Action Planning (Develop an operational plan for improving personal and/or team performance in a virtual and potentially cross-cultural environment)
Methods
The Global Virtual Teams programme is offered in three formats, a 1 or 2 day classroom programme or a 4 hour virtual classroom programme. The programme is also available in two versions:
Open Enrolment - Team members wanting to improve their individual virtual teamwork skills
Intact Teams - Team leader and his/her intact team wanting to improve their collective virtual teamwork performance
Global Team Navigator e-learning
As part of the programme participants will use the Global Team Navigator team performance e-tool.
For Open Enrolment: Individual participants complete the Global Team Navigator: Individual Assessment. The results indicate where the individual is strong or needs to develop in relation to supporting the six performance zones of global virtual team success. Members of intact teams can, of course, complete both the Team and Individual Assessments.
For Intact Teams: Team members complete the Global Team Navigator: Team Assessment. The results show how the team is performing in each of the six performance zones and identifies development challenges. This is a robust and dynamic tool for accelerating virtual team performance.
